Melbourne Hwaro Korean BBQ
I told DJ that I could live in Korea if I have the chance. I heart korean cuisine.
This restaurant was recommended by KatsuDon’s work colleague.

Old school way of cooking ! Some say the food taste better when it’s cooked with a coal pit. Plus it also functioned as a heater.
Becareful with evil-twenty-one-percent-alcohol soju. You might wake up in a middle of the road or bed.
I must say the kimchi they serve is by far the best I’ve ever taste. The after taste is still stuck in my mind. i bought 2 tubs of diffrent company kimchi but the taste is just no where near from what i had.
Hjien reckons the ambient of this BBQ restaurant resemble Korea.
I had dinner there last Sunday. The food was only so-so and it doesn’t give me any satisfaction at the end of dinner although we ordered almost everything they offered in the restaurant. The only thing I liked was the grilled mushroom. Such a shame.
Loved the rice wine and the ribena taste-alike alcoholic drink though.
Really but I enjoyed it a lot. Love the winter soup that we ordered and also the bbq scotch fillet. Am still thinking about the kim chi.
I have asked Hjien to teach us on how to make kim chi.
Was it packed on Sunday?
Can you please ask HJien to make us some? I love Kimchi but I think the one at Hwaro wasn’t fantastic either.
Almost every table was taken on Sunday. Service was really good though cause the owner is charmaine’s friend, that’s why he gave us some food that wasn’t on the menu, plus all different kinda drinks. But still didn’t satisfy me.
If you like charcoal grill, we can go to one in KL if we’ve time. It’s Japanese style grill, with charcoal as well. I think that one is better. Maybe something’s wrong with my tongue on Sunday but really, Keat, Ken and I didn’t enjoy much.
The one in KL’s called Momotaro Yakiniku, I’ve blogged about it before at the beginning of the year.
Oooh…I will have to try this one out as I have a particular fancy for Korean food.
Great blog BTW. I hope you don’t mind but I’ve added you to my blogroll.
Keep eating!
Hi Mellie,
Yeah give it a try and I’ll wait for you to write up about this Korean joint.
Btw, I’ve added you to my favourite link awhile ago. I hope you don’t mind
great pics! i really enjoyed this restaurant! not a large menu, but a great place to dig into some bbq and all the lovely korean side dishes. the kimchi was definitely outstanding. i hope they get more korean restaurants in melbourne. it’s a cuisine that they’re lacking here! it’s the hottest thing in hollywood!
Hi GP,
Thanks for the compliment on the photos.
Yeah I really enjoyed the food in this restaurant too. The prices were pretty reasonable as well.
I agree with you, we need more Korean restaurants in Melbourne!!
